It is commonly said that leaders are developed, not born… a true statement for the most part. Sure, some may have more of a natural propensity towards leadership than others… they may have been born with certain skills and traits facilitating their rise to leadership, however, there is simply no one out there who cannot turn themselves into a leader if they so desire… regardless of personality or whatever skills and traits they may or may not have been born with.
Leadership comes from a want and desire… it’s not for the lazy. Leadership is more than simply saying “follow me”, being enthusiastic, and blindly leading people… and it’s more than cheesy slogans and sayings. A true leader guides through example… they don’t just say… they DO. As humans, most of us actually have a natural tendency to be the follower… we like being told what to do… it’s easy. Unfortunately this is generally reinforced in the society we live in. From the time we begin our education in preschool we’re told what to do and how to do it. We continue this trend until we’re old and retired, as we’re dictated what to do throughout most of our lives by our bosses.
It may be a life most people hate, yet most people simply lack the motivation to do anything about it. Complacency is easy. What differs between the followers and the “do-ers” is a vision and a desire to achieve that vision no matter what. Entrepreneurs like Donald Trump, Tony Robbins, RobertKiyosaki, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs (and so on) didn’t achieve their goals and become the incredible successes they are by being followers and conforming to the every-day mould most of us fit into. No… they were visionaries… they were leaders… and they let nothing get in their way during their journeys towards their goals.
Do you think you don’t have what it takes to be a leader? Untrue. Delve deep within yourself. What are your goals? What is your vision? How badly do you want that vision to come true? If you want it badly enough it is possible. Follow your vision… don’t let anything get in your way, and achieve your goals.
